SUMMARY:Kathleen Holloway Exhibition Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a wine reception to celebrate the opening of a new exhibition from Kathleen Holloway! \nThe genesis for this recent body of work comes from all of the changes we\, as a society both locally and globally\, have gone through in the past few years. The pandemic forced many of us to work from home\, wear masks to cover our faces\, and to keep socially distant from family\, friends\, and neighbors.This mutual isolation has changed our society and ourselves in profound ways. Yet as we start going “back to normal”\, what we once knew of our surrounding world is now altered. The familiar has become unfamiliar. \nTo demonstrate this idea visually\, Kathleen photographs the things we all collectively recognize\, such as trees\, leaves\, clouds\, and flowers\, then manipulates a single frame in a kaleidoscopic spin to reveal new forms and patterns that lay hidden beneath the surface. Once printed and mounted to a substrate\, she uses encaustic wax to coat the pieces in various thicknesses\, adding texture and depth to transform the images. This gives the audience a deeper interaction with the pieces and challenges the concept of what we designate “a photograph”. She is also exploring various other ways of presenting her work by printing on cotton rag papers and fabrics. \nAfter graduating from the photography program at The Art Institute in Seattle\, Kathleen Holloway moved back East\, where she grew up\, to pursue a career as a photo editor in publishing and the entertainment industry. After 20 years of working with photographers\, Kathleen is finally following her dream of showing her own work.
