Through our permanent collections\, participants will learn about those who have shaped the stories of Inwood\, including the Lenape\, Revolutionary War soldiers\, the Dyckman Family\, free and enslaved African people\, and present-day residents of Northern Manhattan. \nDon’t miss the chance to explore Dyckman Farmhouse Museum’s historic Hessian military hut\, community altar\, latest contemporary artist exhibition\, and a collections exhibition covering Revolutionary War history in Inwood! \n15 spots available for each tour. \nFirst come\, first serve. \nDate: Saturday\, June 20\, 2026 \nTime: 12pm-1pm \nCost: Free with Museum Admission ($3 or free for Uptown and Bronx residents) \n\nOn Saturday\, June 20 and Saturday\, October 10\, guided tours are 100% free to the public in partnership with New York Path Through History Weekend. Please only reserve your Guided Tour ticket via Eventbrite or in-person at our front desk.\n\nRegistration Required? Yes! SUMMARY:Archiving Black Family Histories with Jhanique Lovejoy
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a free digitizing workshop and community discussion about Black diasporic archival traditions with Dyckman Farmhouse Museum’s exhibiting artist Jhanique Lovejoy \n\n\n\n\nThrough a guided discussion with Jhanique Lovejoy\, participants will explore the role of family photographs in Caribbean and Black diasporic archival traditions\, oral histories\, and intergenerational preservation. \nMoving from discussion to practice\, participants will engage directly with archival tools and methods by digitizing personal photographs\, negatives\, and ephemera from their own family archives with a high-resolution scanner provided at the workshop! \nParticipants will also have the opportunity to browse curated examples of Caribbean archival history and preservation practices in order to develop a foundational knowledge of archival processes\, digitization\, and creating archival ephemera. \nWhat to bring: \n\n5 4×6 or 5×7 sized photos from your family archive OR\n1 8×10 photo and 2 4×6 or 5×7 photos from your family archive OR\n2-5 negatives\, newspaper clippings\, and archival documents from your family archive.\n\nEach participant will receive an archival-safe polysleeve to properly store the family photos they brought to the workshop and a personal USB containing their scanned photos from the workshop. \nDate: Saturday\, June 20\, 2026 \nTime: 4pm-6pm \nCost: Free \nRSVP Required? Yes\, register on Eventbrite! Only 15 seats available. \nLocation: Dyckman Farmhouse Museum (on the corner of 204th Street and Broadway) \nThis program is supported\, in part\, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council. Soon Come\, Likkle More by Jhanique Lovejoy is made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature. \nDyckman Farmhouse Museum Alliance’s programs are made possible by The Cowles Charitable Trust and the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.
