DESCRIPTION:Dyckman Discussions: Culture and Connection in Early New York\nMarch 11th\, 2023 at 2PM\nLocation: Fordham University Lincoln Center\, 140 West 62nd Street \nDyckman Discussions is a two year discussion series focusing on exploring topics in New York history\, such as forced removal of indigenous people\, Dutch colonization\, enslaved labor\, and immigration. “Culture and Connection in Early New York\,” is the first panel in a series of 5 taking place in 2023.\nMore about the panel: In the 17th and 18th centuries\, the cultures and empires bordering the Atlantic ocean were defined by trade\, colonization\, slavery\, and resistance. This panel explores the shores of the Atlantic and the Caribbean as a meeting place for Africans\, Europeans\, and Native Americans. Our panelists will explore slavery in the Hudson Valley\, relations between the Dutch and indigenous peoples\, Dutch connections to the Caribbean\, and the role of Dutch women in New Amsterdam.\nNo registration is required to attend in person.
