DESCRIPTION:Cinzia Meneghello: Uptown Magic\nExhibition Opening and Reception\nTuesday\, May 2nd from 6PM-8PM \nCelebrate the opening of DFM’s newest exhibition on May 2nd at 6PM! “Cinzia Meneghello: Uptown Magic” transforms Inwood into a fairy tale. It depicts a luminous\, fantasy realm full of whimsical creatures\, enchanted forests\, and symbolic thresholds. Many of the works in the exhibition were inspired by the natural and cultural richness of Northern Manhattan – from its majestic parks and beautiful wildlife to the Met Cloisters’ and Dyckman Farmhouse Museum’s unique collections. Viewers are invited to see themselves as heroines and magicians\, fairies and angels\, or simply as curious beings enthralled by the potential and magic within themselves\, their community\, and the places they inhabit. DESCRIPTION:Dyckman Discussions: Slavery in Greater New York\nMay 6th\, 2023 at 2PM\nLocation: Holy Trinity Church Inwood \nDyckman Discussions is a two year discussion series focusing on exploring topics in New York history\, such as forced removal of indigenous people\, Dutch colonization\, enslaved labor\, and immigration. “Slavery in Greater New York\,” is the fourth panel in a series of 5 taking place in 2023. \nMore about the panel: Chaired by Dr. Jennifer Anderson (Stony Brook University)\, this panel examines the lives of enslaved people in New York\, Long Island\, and the Hudson Valley. Past scholarship has primarily focused on the seaport of lower Manhattan and the labor routines that developed around an urban environment. This panel casts a larger net\, inserting the Hudson Valley plantations and the slaveholders of Long Island into this dialogue of slavery in the North. \nNo registration is required to attend in person. Tony y Son De La 104 is a New York Salsa Orchestra. The band plays a variety of styles of Salsa Dura\, Classics and Romantic Salsa. “Our sound is reminiscent of the trombone sound of the popular bands from the 70’s and 80’s with a contemporary edge. We perform our original compositions as well as top Latin standards. The band performs for private and corporate events\, Non-profit organizations\, night clubs and lounges.
