Harvest Moon and Tsukimi Celebration

Celebrate Harvest Moon and Tsukimi with the Dyckman Farmhouse Museum and the Fort Washington Green! Harvest Moon refers to the full, bright Moon that occurs closest to the start of autumn. Farmers would rely on the harvest moon to harvest crops late into the night before they had electricity. In Japanese culture, Tsukimi means “moon-viewing,” and is a festival that honors the autumn moon. This year, Harvest Moon and Tsukimi fall on September 10th.
Our event will begin with a screening of the film “Nourishing Japan,” which “invites you to embark on a delicious journey from farmers’ field to school classroom that celebrates how one country has re-imagined school lunch and food education.” Following the film, we will have a potluck celebration with games, music, and riceball making.
Please bring your own food dish to share! The event is free and open to the public.

Harvest Moon es la Luna llena y brillante que ocurre al comienzo del otoño. Los agricultores confiaban en la luna de cosecha para cosechar cultivos hasta altas horas de la noche antes de que tuvieran electricidad. En la cultura japonesa, Tsukimi significa “ver la luna” y es un festival que honra la luna de otoño. Este año, Harvest Moon y Tsukimi caen el 10 de septiembre.
Nuestro evento comenzará con la proyección de la película “Nourishing Japan”, que lo invita a embarcarse en un delicioso viaje desde el campo de los agricultores hasta el aula escolar que celebra cómo un país ha reinventado el almuerzo escolar y la educación alimentaria”.
Después de la película, tendremos una celebración compartida con juegos, música y elaboración de bolas de arroz.
