What’s the most historic thing in Inwood? For many, the DYCKMAN FARMHOUSE would be at the top of the list. It’s not only a national landmark, it’s one of the oldest structures in Manhattan. The name Dyckman appears all over the neighborhood – on streets, schools, shops, subway stations, ballfields, basketball tournaments. What is its story? When was it built, who lived there, and why is it still around?
On June 26th at 6pm, DFMA trustee Don Rice will present The Amazing Story of the Dyckman Farmhouse, a recently researched tour-de-force that pulls together everything we know about this fascinating and historic structure. Using primary documents and rarely-seen images and maps we’ll trace the history of Inwood’s oldest home, and even make a few guesses about its future.
