Back Porch History: The American Revolution in Inwood, Part 2

Two months ago we told the story of the events leading up to the battle of Fort Washington in 1776. But the war didn’t end until 1783.
In this talk we’ll pick up at the beginning of 1777 and talk about how Inwood changed during the war. We’ll hear about the battles and skirmishes of course, and about the lawless “Neutral Ground” of lower Westchester, and about the marauders known as Refugees, Cowboys, and Skinners who wreaked havoc throughout the area. We’ll also learn about the destruction of the Dyckman family’s Inwood farm, and how some of the Dyckman sons became freedom fighters. And much more.
